How to Fix Color Grading Not Applying in DaVinci Resolve
Direct solutions for fixing color grading and LUTs not applying in DaVinci Resolve.
Color grading not applying in DaVinci Resolve is typically caused by bypassed color nodes, disabled color grades globally, or incorrect render cache settings.
Here are the direct methods to fix color grading issues in DaVinci Resolve.
How do you enable bypassed color nodes?
If your color grade suddenly disappears, you may have accidentally bypassed a specific node or all nodes on the clip.
To enable bypassed color nodes:
- Go to the Color page.
- Look at the Node editor on the top right.
- If a node is greyed out with a line through it, it is bypassed. Click the number on the bottom left of the node (or press
Ctrl+D/Cmd+D) to re-enable it. - If all nodes are bypassed, press
Shift+Dto toggle all nodes back on.

How do you enable global color grading?
If no clips on your timeline are showing their color grades, the global color bypass toggle has been activated.
To enable global color grading:
- Look at the top right of the viewer window on the Color page.
- Locate the Bypass Color Grades and Fusion Effects button (it looks like a magic wand or a split circle).
- If it is highlighted or flashing, click it to turn it off. This restores color processing for the entire project.
How do you fix render cache hiding color grades?
If you make changes to a color node but the image in the viewer does not update, DaVinci Resolve is likely showing you an outdated render cache instead of the live grade.
To fix render cache hiding color grades:
- Go to the Playback menu at the very top of the screen.
- Navigate to Render Cache and select None.
- If the color grade suddenly appears, your cache was stuck. You can now switch the Render Cache back to Smart or User to force it to rebuild with the new color data.
How do you apply grades across multiple clips?
If you graded one clip and want to apply it to others, but it's not working, you may be using the wrong copy method.
To apply a grade to multiple clips:
- Go to the Color page.
- Click the un-graded clip you want to change.
- Middle-click (press the scroll wheel down) on the clip that already has the color grade. This instantly copies the entire node tree to your new clip.
