Transitions are not working in Final Cut Pro primarily because the adjoining clips lack extra media handles, attached audio is blocking the edit point, or a compound clip is interfering.

Here are the direct methods to fix broken transitions in Final Cut Pro.

## How do you fix missing media handles for transitions?
If Final Cut Pro throws an error saying "There is not enough extra media beyond clip edges to create the transition," you are trying to apply a transition to the absolute beginning or end of a raw video file.

To fix missing media handles:
1. Click the edit point between the two clips on the timeline.
2. Use the **Trim Tool** (`T`) to drag the edges of both clips inward by at least 15-30 frames. This creates invisible "extra media" (handles) that the software can overlap.
3. Re-apply the transition from the Effects Browser. Final Cut Pro will now use the trimmed handles to successfully overlap the footage.

## How do you fix attached audio blocking transitions?
If you drag a cross-dissolve onto a video cut but it refuses to snap to the edit point, a disconnected or overlapping audio clip underneath is blocking the placement.

To fix audio blocking transitions:
1. Look below the video clips for any green or purple audio/title clips that overlap the exact edit point.
2. Select the overlapping audio clip and press `Cmd+Option+Up Arrow` to lift it out of the primary storyline.
3. Drag the video transition onto the primary storyline edit point. It will now apply perfectly because the audio is no longer conflicting with the cut.

## How do you apply transitions to compound clips?
If a transition looks glitchy or reveals hidden clips when applied to a complex timeline, the layers beneath the transition are bleeding through.

To fix transitions on complex layers:
1. Select all the clips, titles, and layers you want to transition together.
2. Right-click and select **New Compound Clip** (or press `Option+G`).
3. Name the clip and click **OK**.
4. Apply the transition to the edge of the new, single Compound Clip. The transition will now smoothly affect all nested layers as a single piece of video.
