Audio waveforms are missing in Final Cut Pro typically because clip appearance settings are set to video-only, the waveform generation process is stuck, or the peak data cache is corrupted.

Here are the direct methods to fix missing audio waveforms in Final Cut Pro.

## How do you enable audio waveforms in the timeline?
If you only see video frames and a flat blue line underneath your clips, the timeline appearance is likely set to hide audio waveforms to save screen space.

To enable audio waveforms:
1. Click the **Clip Appearance** button in the top-right corner of the timeline (it looks like a small filmstrip).
2. Select one of the clip views that includes waveforms (the icons with blue audio spikes).
3. Increase the clip height using the slider in the same menu to make the waveforms more visible.

## How do you fix a stuck waveform generation process?
If you just imported large video files and the waveforms are completely blank, Final Cut Pro is still calculating the peak audio data in the background and may have paused.

To fix stuck waveform generation:
1. Open the **Background Tasks** window by clicking the small circle icon with a checkmark (top left, next to the timecode).
2. Look at the **Importing Media** or **Generating Waveforms** progress bar.
3. If it is paused, click the play button to resume. If it is frozen, restart Final Cut Pro to force the process to restart.

## How do you rebuild corrupted waveform cache?
If waveforms refuse to appear even after waiting, the internal peak data cache for your Library has become corrupted and needs to be deleted.

To rebuild corrupted waveform cache:
1. Close Final Cut Pro completely.
2. Open Finder and navigate to your Final Cut Pro Library file (usually in the Movies folder).
3. Right-click the Library file and select **Show Package Contents**.
4. Open the specific Event folder containing your missing waveforms.
5. Open the **Render Files** folder, then open the **Peaks Data** folder.
6. Delete the contents of the Peaks Data folder.
7. Reopen Final Cut Pro. The software will automatically recalculate and draw fresh, uncorrupted waveforms.
