## How does the Clone Tool work in DaVinci Resolve Media page?

Open the Clone Tool from the Media page toolbar. Select the source drive, card, or folder containing your camera media. Select one or more destination drives. Click Clone to start the process. Resolve creates bit-for-bit copies with XXHash64 checksum verification, ensuring every byte is copied correctly. You can save multiple copies to different destinations simultaneously for maximum redundancy.

## Why is checksum verification important for camera media backup?

Checksum verification compares the source and destination data at the byte level using XXHash64, a high-speed hashing algorithm. If the checksums match, the copy is verified as identical to the source. If they differ, the Clone Tool reports the error so you can retry the copy. This eliminates the risk of silent data corruption that can occur with simple file copy operations.

For on-set DIT workflows, the Clone Tool is essential. Clone camera cards to multiple drives simultaneously, verify all copies with checksums, and only then erase the camera cards for reuse. This guarantees that the footage is safely stored on at least two verified drives before the card is overwritten.

## What types of media can the Clone Tool copy?

The Clone Tool works with any camera media that appears as a mounted drive on your system — CFast cards, SD cards, SxS cards, SSD magazines, RED MINI-MAGs, and USB drives. It copies all files including hidden and system files, preserving the complete card structure. For cinema cameras like ARRI and RED, this includes sidecar metadata files alongside the raw footage.

For editors who pre-ingest footage into Cutsio, the Clone Tool provides the verified backup layer. Clone the card to a working drive, then upload the footage to Cutsio for review, transcription, and pre-editing while the original card remains safely stored.
