## How do you set up Blackmagic Cloud collaboration in DaVinci Resolve?

To set up Blackmagic Cloud collaboration in DaVinci Resolve, create a free Blackmagic Cloud ID, set up a project library on the DaVinci Resolve Project Server, invite collaborators by their Cloud IDs, and assign them to the project. Once connected, multiple people can work on the same timeline simultaneously with automatic bin and timeline locking to prevent conflicts.

Blackmagic Cloud is built directly into DaVinci Resolve at no additional cost. It supports real-time collaboration across all pages — Edit, Color, Fusion, Fairlight, and Cut — with each collaborator working in their dedicated page using the tools they need. Changes are visible to all collaborators in real time, and the built-in timeline comparison tool lets you review and accept changes before they are applied.

## How do you create a Blackmagic Cloud ID and set up a project library?

Click the cloud icon in the DaVinci Resolve project manager. This opens the Blackmagic Cloud website where you can create your Cloud ID. The process is free and requires only an email address and password. Once your ID is created, log in from within DaVinci Resolve.

![Blackmagic Cloud ID](https://images.blackmagicdesign.com/images/products/davinciresolve/collaboration/cloud-id/cloud-id-xl@2x.jpg?_v=1774924179)

After logging in, set up a project library. Select a server close to your geographic location for optimal latency and name your library. The library acts as the shared container for all projects in the collaboration. Create a new project within the library or import an existing one. With the project library set up, you are ready to invite collaborators.

To invite collaborators, click the share button in the project manager and enter their Blackmagic Cloud IDs. You can add any number of collaborators. Each person receives a notification and can open the project from their own DaVinci Resolve instance. There is no per-seat licensing requirement for collaboration — any DaVinci Resolve user can collaborate, though Studio features require a Studio license.

## How does real-time collaboration work on the same timeline in Resolve?

When multiple users are working on the same project, DaVinci Resolve uses automatic bin and timeline locking to prevent overwrites. Each user can work in different bins simultaneously. Bins and timelines are read-only until the current user unlocks them.

Editors can work on the Edit page while colorists grade on the Color page and sound designers mix on the Fairlight page — all on the same project. Changes appear in real time but are only applied when each collaborator accepts the updates. The viewer shows pending changes, and you can accept or reject them individually.

The live save feature automatically saves small incremental changes to the project database as collaborators work. This means no one loses work if they are interrupted or forget to save. Live save runs continuously in the background across all collaborators.

## How does the timeline comparison tool work for accepting changes?

When a collaborator makes changes to a shared timeline, the visual timeline comparison tool lets you see exactly what changed. It highlights added, deleted, moved, and trimmed clips, making it easy to review and accept new changes as they come in.

![Visual Timeline Comparison](https://images.blackmagicdesign.com/images/products/davinciresolve/collaboration/timeline/timeline-xl@2x.jpg?_v=1602554571)

The comparison view shows two versions side by side with visual indicators for every modification. Green highlights indicate added clips, red shows deleted areas, and yellow marks moved or trimmed sections. You can accept individual changes or merge all changes into your working timeline with a single click.

This eliminates the traditional conform process where changes had to be manually tracked through change logs and re-applied by each artist. In the Blackmagic Cloud workflow, the timeline comparison handles the conform automatically.

## How does Blackmagic Cloud handle media syncing for collaborators?

Blackmagic Cloud can sync proxy media between collaborators so everyone has a local copy for fast performance. When you enable media sync, Resolve automatically shares proxy files through Blackmagic Cloud. As new files are added, they automatically sync and appear in the project.

You can use your local drive for storage, or use network storage such as a Blackmagic Cloud Store for larger projects with multiple collaborators. The sync works with Dropbox as well, giving you flexibility in how media is distributed.

For editors working with cinema raw formats, Cutsio provides an upstream alternative. Upload ARRI RAW or RED R3D files to Cutsio as an enterprise add-on. Cutsio creates streamable review assets with Visual Intelligence indexing and keeps the original camera files attached for download. Team members review selects in Cutsio before the timeline reaches Resolve, reducing the amount of media that needs to be synced through Blackmagic Cloud.

## How many collaborators can work on a single Blackmagic Cloud project?

DaVinci Resolve supports dozens of simultaneous collaborators on a single project through Blackmagic Cloud. There is no hard limit on the number of collaborators. Each user works in their own page with their own tools, and the bin locking system ensures that two people do not edit the same bin simultaneously.

For larger teams, Blackmagic Cloud for Organizations provides additional management tools including groups, teams, and single sign-on for easier administration of large collaborator groups.

## FAQ

### Is Blackmagic Cloud free to use?
Yes. Creating a Blackmagic Cloud ID is free. Cloud storage and project server usage have associated costs based on monthly usage. The collaboration features themselves have no per-seat fees.

### Do all collaborators need DaVinci Resolve Studio?
Collaborators can use either the free or Studio version of DaVinci Resolve. However, Studio features such as Neural Engine AI tools and advanced Resolve FX require a Studio license on each workstation.

### Can collaborators work on different pages simultaneously?
Yes. Each collaborator works independently in their chosen page. An editor can be on the Edit page while a colorist works on the Color page and a sound designer works on Fairlight — all on the same project at the same time.

### How does Blackmagic Cloud handle internet outages?
DaVinci Resolve saves changes locally and syncs when the connection is restored. The live save feature ensures incremental changes are preserved, and the project remains accessible in read-only mode if the connection drops.

### Can I use Blackmagic Cloud with a private network instead of the public cloud?
Yes. The DaVinci Resolve Project Server application allows you to set up collaboration on a private network using VPNs and firewalls for security-sensitive projects.
