The best way to fix timeline issues in Final Cut Pro is to use the Zoom to Fit shortcut, double-click the correct Project in the Browser, and use the Position tool to bypass magnetic collisions.

Here are the direct methods to best fix timeline issues in Final Cut Pro.

## What is the fastest way to zoom to fit a lost timeline?
If you scroll too far or zoom in too deeply and the entire timeline appears empty or dark grey, your playhead is parked in empty space past the end of your edit.

To quickly zoom to fit the timeline:
1. Click anywhere inside the timeline panel to make it active.
2. Press `Shift-Z` on your keyboard.
3. Final Cut Pro will instantly resize the view horizontally to perfectly fit every single clip in your edit on the screen, bringing the entire project back into view.

## How do you restore a missing timeline?
If you open Final Cut Pro and the bottom half of the screen says "No Project Selected," the application has closed your active sequence and is waiting for you to load one.

To restore a missing timeline:
1. Go to the **Browser** sidebar on the top left.
2. Look inside your active Event folders for an icon that looks like a small clapperboard with a star on it (this is your Project/Timeline file).
3. Double-click the Project icon.
4. The timeline interface will instantly populate with all your video and audio tracks, exactly where you left off.

## How do you bypass magnetic timeline collisions?
If you try to move a clip to a specific spot on the timeline but other clips aggressively snap, ripple, or slide out of the way, the Magnetic Timeline is preventing free placement.

To bypass magnetic timeline collisions:
1. Instead of using the standard Select tool (A), press `P` on your keyboard to activate the **Position** tool.
2. Click and drag your clip to the desired location on the timeline.
3. The clip will drop exactly where you place it, overwriting anything underneath it and leaving a blank gap (slug) behind it, completely ignoring the magnetic rippling rules.
4. Press `A` to return to the standard Select tool when finished.
